In 2019, Arneiro 1969 celebrated its 50th anniversary with the 3rd edition of INTRADITION, a cultural initiative dedicated to Portuguese Goldsmithing, under the theme “Half a Century with a Future”. The exhibition was on display from October 4 to 31, at Vila Alda – Casa do Elétrico de Sintra, marking an important milestone in the brand’s history.
In this edition, INTRADITION’19 took on a strong cultural dimension, presenting itself as a temporary exhibition focused on the last 50 years of Portuguese goldsmithing, drawing a parallel with the journey of Arneiro 1969, founded in 1969 and widely recognised for valuing traditional craftsmanship combined with innovation.
An Exhibition About Time, Tradition and the Future
With free admission, the exhibition invited visitors to look at jewellery beyond its aesthetic value, exploring traditional manufacturing processes, artisanal techniques and the cultural significance of jewellery production in Portugal. Time was at the heart of the narrative — the time required to create each piece, the time devoted to learning, and the transmission of knowledge from generation to generation, all fundamental elements of traditional Portuguese goldsmithing.
The exhibition was curated by Professor Ana Cristina Correia de Sousa, from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, a scholar with recognised work in the field of Portuguese goldsmithing history. INTRADITION’19 was also supported by the Municipality of Sintra and the AORP – Portuguese Jewellery and Watchmaking Association, reinforcing the institutional and cultural relevance of the initiative.
Talks and Knowledge Sharing at INTRADITION’19
Complementing the exhibition, INTRADITION’19 also hosted a series of talks, held on Saturday mornings, focusing on different topics related to Portuguese jewellery and goldsmithing. These informal conversations brought together experienced professionals and recognised names from the sector, creating a space for dialogue, reflection and knowledge sharing about the present and future of the craft.
Celebrating 50 Years of Arneiro 1969
The celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Arneiro 1969 also included an exclusive event for invited guests, held on October 3rd at 7:00 pm. Clients, friends and professional partners were welcomed to an outdoor cocktail reception, which officially opened the exhibition and featured the presentation of an exclusive Arneiro 1969 collection, created especially to commemorate this historic milestone.
INTRADITION’19: A Tribute to Portuguese Goldsmithing
INTRADITION’19 – Half a Century with a Future was more than a commemorative exhibition. It was a tribute to Portuguese goldsmithing, its cultural legacy and the people who, over decades, have shaped this art. A look at the past with a clear focus on the future, reflecting the values that have defined Arneiro 1969 for 50 years.
